Lhasa to Kathmandu Overland is one of the world greatest overland journey’s and it’s a common journey for Tibet travelers.  However despite its fame and the development that has sprung up in the towns along the way it remains a truly incredible trip.  Gone are the days of rough dusty tracks, sketchy truck stops and eternal breakdowns –  the road is now paved almost the entire way and reasonable hotels and restaurants can be found in almost all towns. But its still the wild west out there and the majesty of the journey has not been lost.  I love approaching Shegar and catching my first glimpse of Everest poking its head up above the range, crossing the Pang La with the Himalayan range spread out in front of me as far as I can see and winding down the never ending switchbacks to Nepal knowing that warm weather and wonderful Nepali hospitality is just across the border.
